Founded in 1970 by Professor M. MAUROY, the Control Department of the Engineering Faculty of Mons FPMs, currently headed by Professor Alain Vande Wouwer, has a staff of about ten collaborators (see "The team").

The Control department ensures undergraduate and graduate education in automatic control. Research has developed in several directions including biomedical engineering, bioprocess engineering, simulation and the associated numerical algorithms as well as industrial process control.

The Control Department has established collaborations with academic and industrial institutions in different part of the world.
